An orientation table and a spyglass have been installed at the place called the Plaine Sapin in order to allow you to admire and understand this magnificent landscape as well as the history linked to it.
The orientation table has been designed to allow access to people with reduced mobility.
In addition to the panorama, there is the Histoire de la Plaine-Sapin (in French, Dutch and English), a brief explanation of the Condroz, the Famenne and the Ardennes (in French), and the names of some large towns. with their direction and distance (as the crow flies) from the Plaine-Sapin.
A memorial was built at the Plaine-Sapin by the "Brotherhood of the Secret Army" and inaugurated on September 7, 1945
1. The point of view:
From the Plaine-Sapin, you can observe the surrounding villages, and some points known to the local inhabitants such as the wind turbines of Pessoux / Jannée, the Tour de la Famenne, the Mont des Pins, and even the Baraque Fraiture (which is located 27km as the crow flies). These different points, and others, are indicated on the panorama.
To make the most of the view, a telescope has been installed. All you need to do is insert a € 0.50 coin to admire the Famenne for 3 minutes.
2. History:
La Plaine-Sapin was an important drop-off point for the Secret Army during World War II.
From April 1944 to September 1944, the AS parachuted there mainly arms, ammunition and some food.
Each year, a commemoration of the events of '44 at the Plaine-Sapin takes place the second weekend of September. This year was the 75th anniversary.
