The observation tern "Tern" is located about 1.5 kilometers south of the Gatower bridge on the winter dike on the Hohensaaten-Friedrichsthaler waterway and allows nature and bird watching in the polder 10. When it was built in 2006, the polder was still mostly dry in the summer and was used for agriculture. In the meantime, the use has been abandoned and shallow water areas have developed over a large area. These are ideal breeding conditions for rare and endangered bird species such as e.g. White-winged, Whitebearded and Black-backed Terns, as well as Great Bittern and Zwergrohrdommel. Throughout the year you can also observe various types of ducks and whales.
