The youth settlement Heidehaus was built in the first post-war years. Its founder, Hermann Höcker, moved in 1947 the "old heath house" with 20 orphaned youth from the former German eastern territories. In self-help gradually the main house, many smaller individual houses, workshops and leisure facilities to today's youth village complex was built.

Today, boys and girls are within the framework of the youth welfare service in accordance with the SGB VIII and in an appropriate individual case also in the context of integration assistance in accordance with the SGB XII in our institution.

The youth settlement is located at the foot of the Teutoburg Forest, approximately in the middle of the triangle Bielefeld - Paderborn - Detmold.

Oriented on the work of Makarenko, the youth settlement Heidehaus was once developed through help for self-help to today's village complex. Since its foundation 60 years ago, the Heidehaus and its inhabitants have remained faithful to this lifelike self-help approach despite all innovations.
Thanks to constant reform efforts, we are today in a life-oriented and partnership / emancipatory process in which young people, employees and all residents work together on the preservation and development of the community.
