Henslerstüble cable car, Schnifis
The hardship of life on the mountain farmer hamlet Schnifisberg at an altitude of almost 1400 m, with no road connection to the valley, could not persuade a girl, no matter how close to nature, to marry a boy who lived there, and forced more and more farmers to give up their farms and get a job in the To look for the “civilized world”. The lack of women expressed itself in the number of children as follows: It was at the beginning of the 20th century. There were still about 30 children on the Schnifisberg, so this number fell to 1 child by 1955.
Something had to be done if the emigration and lack of women on the Schnifisberg were to be stopped. Initiative and courageous peasant minds did not accept the situation, but looked for solutions. With the construction of a road - the original idea - vehicles would have to be purchased, every farmer would have to pass the driver's license test, and in winter you would still be cut off from the rest of the world. Peter Rauch, manager of the Schnifner parcel Bassig, and mayor of the Schnifisberg parcel, Eduard Fischer, dared the crazy idea of building a cable car. After a lot of persuasion, most of the affected farmers spoke out in favor of this ambitious project, even though it was clear to them that the implementation could only be realized by purchasing shares. No sooner said than done, in 1949 the state government first approached the state government for technical and financial help for this ambitious project.
In 1953, Eduard Fischer and Peter Rauch finally did not achieve everything in Bregenz, but they did get the approval of the state of Vorarlberg to contribute forty percent to the construction costs of a “cable car with limited public transport”. At least 60% of the total costs remained, which had to be raised from various sacks. The lion's share of this 60%, which was split into 100 ownership shares, was again taken over by the 12 farming families from Schnifnerberg, 60% depending on size and altitude, 34% by the Schnifis community, 4% by the dairy cooperative and 2% by the Schnifis consumer association. After the constituent meeting of the "Schnifis-Schnifisberg Cable Car Association" in 1955, another five years would pass before the cable car could be built. Five years in which the locations of the mountain and valley stations, routes and technical requirements were planned. Five years in which the Schnifisbergers actually only held out because they had a goal, a way out, the imminent change in their difficult living conditions in mind.

On Easter Monday, April 3, 1961, at 2 p.m., the Schnifisbergbahn was inaugurated with a ceremony at the valley station. Peter Rauch as chairman, Stefan Amann as mayor of Schnifis and governor Ulrich Ilg praised the teamwork in their speeches, Abbot Inheidi von Einsiedeln and Pastor Engelbert Ursprung asked for God's blessing, and then it was time to say "Clear the way!" For the numerous visitors.
