The red brick chapel is located in the immediate vicinity of Wenningstedt village pond. It is one of the youngest churches on the island of Sylt. The foundation stone was laid in 1914. A special feature of the Friesenkapelle is the half-moon ceiling and the Delft tiles. The vault is painted with biblical images and symbols in the style of a farmer's painting. The individual motifs are intended to capture the special atmosphere of the island of Sylt. After old templates the tiles were handmade in Delft. As a model, traditional Sylt Frisian houses were considered, the church should thereby become a place of well-being.

The frieze chapel at the old village pond of Wenningstedt is very nice from the inside in the stalk of an old sailors village chapel.

Together with the Denghoog next to it an absolute must on the island. You should definitely enjoy the homely atmosphere of a Frisian village church for a short stop. The beautiful wooden ceiling is painted with scenes from the Bible and with ornaments, plus the Lord's Prayer in Frisian on the side walls. If the time fits, a short mass celebration and the very personable Pastor Chinnow.
