The way is not only beautiful, it also has a certain historical value. He was part of the old Landwehr (1397-1406). The Hasenburg is the last preserved watchtower of the Landwehr. These land forces did not serve the military defense, but should prevent merchants from bypassing the city of Lüneburg. Lüneburg at the time had the right to stack and the traveling merchants were obliged to offer their goods in Lüneburg for three days. Of course that cost fees and not every dealer wanted to pay them.
