This mythical staircase has 374 steps. If you're in Liège, you have to climb them - or descend them, for the lazy - at least once!

I advise you to come the first Saturday of October. The Cité ardente bears its name particularly well and shines with a thousand lights during the annual event of the Nocturnes des Coteaux de la Citadelle. The stairs are then decorated with thousands of candles.

With a total of 374 steps, the Montagne de Bueren is the second largest staircase in Belgium after the staircase to the Citadel of Dinant with 34 additional steps and is considered a tourist attraction in the city of Liège.

With its 374 steps and an angle of almost 30%, the Montagne de Bueren is known as one of the most extreme stairs in the world.
This place, always open to the public, is one of the main attractions of the city of Liège.
The Montagne de Bueren was built in the 19th century and connects the citadel's barracks to the city.
The name of this enormous staircase refers to the coup attempt of the 600 Franchimontezen. Led by Vincent de Bueren and Gossuin de Streel, they tried to capture Charles the Bold and Louis XI on the night of October 29, 1468. And contrary to popular belief, the 600 Franchimontezen never passed through this place.
