The approximately thirteen-kilometer-long Trietbach rises in the district of Giesenkirchen-Hödgen and flows into the Niers in the north-east of the city south of the trotting track and west of the airfield on the right-hand side. It flows in a northerly direction through an extensive lowland, in which, among other things, broken water is supplied to it from a network of drainage ditches.
From its source in Hödgen, the Trietbach initially flows in a predominantly north-easterly direction, passes the Hoppbruch with the Hoppbruch waterworks near Pesch and then flows between Korschenbroich and Kleinenbroich to the western outskirts of Raderbroich, where it changes direction and turns into a large one arc north of the site turns north-west towards its mouth.
