The official inauguration of the observatory on the Grenzertplatte took place on October 4th, 2008. The observatory was founded by the astronomical association Karlsruhe e. V. built and continued to operate. The name "Heinz-Deininger-Observatory" was chosen in recognition of a generous friend and sponsor of the association.
Since then, a public observation evening has been held once a year (depending on the weather conditions). Here visitors and guests can venture a look at the sky through the telescope. Distant stars and constellations are explained by the employees of the astronomical association Karlsruhe e.V.
