The village was first mentioned in the census of the parish of the Zator deanery of the Krakow diocese from 1326 under the name Polenka. Probably at the end of the fourteenth century, a sister village was established, Polanka Górna, called Polanka Nowa, while the older Polanka was called Polanka Stara (Lower).
Politically, the village was then within the borders of the Duchy of Oświęcim, established in 1315, and from 1327 constituting a fief of the Kingdom of Bohemia. In 1457 it was bought by the Polish king Kazimierz Jagiellończyk, and in the accompanying sales document issued by John IV of Oświęcim on February 21, 1457 both Polanka Antiqua and Nowa Polanka were mentioned [5]. In 1564, the principality was finally incorporated into the Crown of the Kingdom of Poland.
