The original structure of the Iglesia de Santa Catalina dates back to the 15th century. The church is located in the square of the same name in Conil de la Frontera. The then rulers of Conil, the de Guzmán family, gave permission to build the church. It should be completed by the end of the 15th century at the latest and be usable for church services, which was also achieved. Originally, three stone pillars protruded from the church, which together formed a temple. Today this is very difficult to see. The head of the church was covered with a vault and the rest of the church received a wooden construction as a roof. Santa Catalina was the largest church in Conil de la Frontera from its construction until the early 20th century.
