A variety of species-rich habitats can be found in a very small space on the 182 hectare natural heritage site: old mixed deciduous forests, former medium and coppice forests, lean lowland meadows and dry limestone grasslands on an extensive high plateau, sparsely vegetated steep slopes and the remains of former vineyards. Together with the neighboring "Dead Valleys", the Rödel is one of the areas in Saxony-Anhalt with the most orchids.
