RHB train station, Cavaglia

The former horse changing station is located at 1,693 meters above sea level on a level between Alp Grüm and Poschiavo.

Today's "station building" used to be a guesthouse and a restaurant; the original Bernina Railway building was a small wooden building at the time.

History of the Bernina Railway

Swiss construction newspaper Vol. 35/36 from 1900:

"A great project has only recently emerged called the Bernina Railway and includes the Samaden-Tirano connection as well as a Pontresina-St. Moritz branch. The frequency of such a railway, which is hardly unparalleled in terms of grandeur, would undoubtedly be in the Summer months are a very good one, but this time is a bit too short, so that it will hardly be possible to find the many millions (10) required, whereas there can be no doubt that after the opening of the Albula Railway, the first section of the Bernina Railway, the Samaden-Pontresina junction, will soon find an entrepreneur and be built."
