Legend has it that the first Triers were baptized in Olewiger Bach. Due to the high number of baptisms and the oil used at the baptism, an oil film formed on the creek, the "oil way". The old "Ölweg" (oleum via) became today's Olewig, the small, cozy winegrowing village among the districts of Trier.
Olewig has a beautiful, village character. Since the Riesling Wine Route, as the main road passes by the place, is within Olewig hardly any car traffic and it is therefore easy to explore by bike.
Also for the physical well-being is ensured, with the Blesius garden, one of the most beautiful beer gardens in Trier, old Olewig, the Weinstube Oberbillig, the Pizzeria Ponticello or on the outskirts next to the bike path to the winery Schleimer. There are also other wineries that invite to a tasting.
On the first weekend in August, the Olewiger wine festival takes place on the festival meadow at the Olewiger monastery (Xaveriusstift) - one of the "events" in the Trier calendar.
