biosphere region
In addition to information in the exhibition in the Kuesteum, a circular hiking trail along the old graft shows some of the main topics of sustainability in the biosphere region. Interactive elements allow a special view of things.
Marienstübchen – apple pie straight from the tree
After the tour, the cozy Marienstübchen and its beautiful garden invite you to coffee and cake with fruit straight from the orchard.
The Marienturm - Count's view
From the former castle, which was built between 1568 and 1571 by the sovereign Maria zu Jever, only the Marienturm and the old fountain remained after the demolition in 1822. Those who dare to climb will be rewarded with a magnificent view over Friesland.
The natural garden - ideas to imitate
The natural garden shows many small and inexpensive ideas on how you can turn your garden into a diverse living space.
The Coastum - life on the coast
The centerpiece of the entire facility is the exhibition on culture, handicrafts, agriculture and coastal protection in the region, lovingly managed by AG Altes Sand. The highlight is a fully functional historic smithy, where the blacksmith's hammer is often still being swung on Sundays. In the house and agricultural exhibition you get a good impression of the everyday objects of a rural community. Memories are awakened here of what it used to be like in the house and yard and how arduous the "completely normal" everyday life was. In the coast protection exhibition you can find out interesting facts about the thousand-year history of dyke construction, storm surges and the creation of the coastline by human hands using modern display boards and models.
