The Protestant Great Marienkirche is a Grade II listed church building in Lippstadt. Probably was around 1205, shortly after the founding of the city started the construction of a cross-shaped basilica. A beam in the flank tower on the north side comes after a dendrochronological investigation from the time around 1200. The construction sections in the east were probably built under the influence of the city's founder Count Bernhard II. Some time later, the nave was rebuilt to become the Münsterland stage hall. An additional one was added to the two existing east towers in the west. The construction was finished around 1250. The late Gothic hall choir was created from 1478 to 1506. The Baroque dome of the west tower, which was completed in the second half of the 13th century, dating back to 1684. [2] The construction of the chapel, sacristy and hall choir was completed in 1478. During the renovation from 1964 to 1972, the floors in the ambulatory and in the nave were lowered to their original level; Vault paintings and murals of the 16th century were revealed. A renewed restoration took place from 1992 to 1997. The slaughtered, multi-part construction of quarry stone is structured with stone. The smooth nave walls are divided on the north side by four round-arched, on the south side by three high, pointed-arched windows with fish bubble measure. The fronts of the transept are elaborately structured.
