One of the many remnants of Cornwall's extensive mining history, the West Chiverton mine's engine house stands out starkly. The mine here once produced tens of thousands of tons of lead and zinc as well as over a million ounces of silver. It was in use in the late 1800s and the engine house had an 80" pumping engine.
Today, it's both beautiful and eerie, visible from the A30 nearby as well as the footpaths that wind their way past it.
