Ruin Alt-Süns 1216, the oldest Vaz castle in Domleschg
In 1216, the barons of Vaz, who had become powerful, built their first castle outside of their ancestral castle Nivaigl in Vaz in mild Domleschg, from where they built Ortenstein fifty years later and still later Neu-Süns, which we usually call Canova. With the heiress Ursula von Vaz of the last baron, the possessions go to the Counts of Werdenberg-Sargans. In the Schams feud of 1451, the barely inhabited castles Alt-Süns and Neu-Süns were brought down by undermining one half of the tower, and since then they have been a picturesque eye-catcher in the Domleschg castle landscape.
