The lower St. Jacob's Water Tower is located on the moat near the Oblatterwall near the Augsburg boat trip. It was formerly part of the Augsburg city wall and was built in 1609 by Augsburg city master builder Elias Holl.
In the past, there were originally two water towers in the Jakobervorstadt, which supplied the Fuggerei with drinking water in addition to the Jakobervorstadt. The second, upper St. Jacob's Water Tower at the Jakobertor was destroyed in 1944 by a bombing hit.
