The Steenbergbos belongs to the Everbeek forests and is located on a "witness hill". The top of the hill (just like many Flemish hills such as the Kemmelberg or the hills in the Voer region) contains more iron ore and is therefore less sensitive to erosion.

This anchorage is located on the territory of Everbeek (municipality of Brakel). In the Flemish Ardennes there are about twelve hills that stand out strongly in the relief because they not only all reach a height of around 150 meters, but also because they are located on a single west-east oriented line. These hills are also called 'witness hills'. Their iron-rich buds are more resistant to rain, and therefore erosion. The Steenbergbos is located on the slope of one of these hills. There are several valleys in the forest. Just south of the church of Bovenkwartier there is the source area of the Molenbeek. There are clear slopes on the valley slope.
