Ski Jump Tower Bergisel History / INNSBRUCK REMEMBERES
In the war years that followed, there were no more reports of competitions on the ski jump; people had other things to worry about at the time. Even after the war, operations at the ski jump no longer seem to have been large: on the one hand, the existing ski jumps on the Lemmenhofwiese were used, and from 1921 there was also a new ski jump run by the Innsbruck Ski Club between Ampass and Aldrans and on the Heiligwasserwiese in Igls. On the other hand, when the run-out of the jump was built with the expansion of the Westbahnhof at the beginning of the 1920s, jumping finally became impossible. As a result, representatives of the Innsbruck Ski Club and friends of ski jumping in Innsbruck looked for a new location for a ski jump. They found what they were looking for on the Bergisel, where a new and the largest ski jump to date in Innsbruck was built in the summer of 1925. The first competition took place there in January 1927. Since then, the ski jump on Bergisel has been part of Innsbruck's history.
The ski jump was converted and expanded for the 1964 and 1976 Winter Olympics.

      Bergisel ski jump tower
      Opened September 14, 2002
      March 25, 2001:
After countless project and financing discussions carried out in advance, with the great personal commitment of the then ÖSV President Peter Schröcksnadel, manual construction work could begin in March 2001. On March 25, 2001 the old ski jump tower was spectacularly blown up. The Brenner motorway in the immediate area and the rail systems made the demolition a complicated project, but in the end there was no damage to either transport route.
      04.01.2002:
Despite numerous doubts and the ever-increasing media pressure, those responsible managed to make the new ski jump ready for jumping in time for the 50th Bergisel ski jump. The first victory on the new Bergiselschanze was taken by the German Sven Hannawald, who was able to win all four competitions in the legendary jumping series for the first time in history during this tour. For safety reasons, the stadium could not be completely filled, but there were still 22,000 fans in the stadium.

Very impressive to look at the take-off table from above. Jumping down the hill is for the brave.

The Bergisel is a 746 m high hill in the southern part of the Wilten district of Innsbruck. It lies at the entrance of the Wipptal valley, drained by the Sill River, into the Inn Valley. The Brenner Railway and the Brenner Autobahn tunnel beneath the Bergisel. At its foot lies the Sill Gorge, a local recreation area.

It's an impressive experience to see where the jumpers start and what kind of view they have when they jump 👍. I had to smile when I saw the cemetery behind it, but luckily, as far as I know, accidents don't happen very often in this sport.
Visitors can climb 174 steps or take the cable car to get to the diving tower. I found the show jumping very interesting. This takes place twice a day for tourists, weather permitting.
