There is nothing left of the castle in Usingen today, but you can stroll through the spacious castle garden. The beginnings of the green area date back to the 17th century. It is laid out on five terraces with side avenues and a vegetable garden with fruit trees. The first two terraces are now used by the school, the actual park starts on the middle terrace. Especially the yews are with their stately age of 300 years.

Unlike Usingen Castle, which burned down in 1873, the park has been preserved over the centuries and is a reminder of the past as a residential city - from 1659 to 1744 Usingen was the capital of the county and later principality of Nassau-Usingen. In 1744 the court moved to Biebrich am Rhein. Due to the slope, the park is divided into terraces. In the upper area there has been a monument to Prince Walrad von Nassau-Usingen since 1905, to which essential building activities can be traced back.

If you walk from the Schlossplatz in the direction of the "Schlossgarten" signs, you will first come to some sports fields. The palace garden lies above it, which can easily be overlooked from this direction.
