Water Tower on Szent István Square. A beautifully landscaped park and a rarity of industrial history, the first water tower made of reinforced concrete, welcome visitors to Szent István Square. Szilárd Zielinski designed the tower with a capacity of 1004.8 m3, it was built in 1904 and it still serves its original function today. The tower is made entirely of concrete, even the door and the flagpole, which is 54.9 m high, were cast. A Foucault pendulum hangs in the tower, which was renovated in 2006, proving that the earth revolves around itself. Colorful soda water bottles, an exhibition on the history of physics and a great panorama of the whole city await those who take the trouble to climb the stairs. Around the tower are busts of seven civil engineers who had a significant impact on shaping the cityscape of Szeged.
The water tower was built in 1904 and has characteristics of geometric Art Nouveau and was designed by Szilard Zelinszki.
