Today, the wedding hall and the city archives are located here. The ground floor now houses the Ratskeller restaurant. The ground floor formerly served as a department store and market hall. The Ratskeller, the city council's wine cellar, housed a bar.

The great town fire of 1545 destroyed the town hall, which was presumably built in the 14th century. In its place, the current building was erected in 1552, likely using the old foundations. A whale rib is suspended from chains beneath the oriel window, intended as a talisman to protect the town from flooding by the Söse River.
