A recurrent location in many Schimanski films is the Ruhrort Werfthafen am Vinckekanal. At Alte Duisburger Straße are the shipyards of Kleinholz and Lünnemann in Ruhrort.

The shipyard harbor is a historical part of the Duisburg harbor. It was built between 1820 and 1825 and was originally oval with an island in the middle on which several shipyards were located. Today, large parts of the former harbor have been filled in and built on, e.g. with the Thousand Window House [komoot.de/highlight/203760]. The shipyard port is part of the Industrial Heritage Route.

The “Blue Grotto” is a work of art by Heide Weidele on the site of the former shipyard island. The intense blue is reflected in the water of the harbor basin and is enhanced at night by lighting.
