The Vortex Stone, also known as: Pagan Altar, is a natural formation of one of the most romantic limestones in the Bükk Mountains, at an altitude of 773 meters above sea level, on the western edge of the part of the Bükk Plateau called the Kis Plateau. In terms of material, it is a limestone from the Upper Triassic age, with a varied, treasure of dissolved form. At the top of the Vortex Stone there is a limestone column with the embossed iron plate of Mór Jókai. Jókai also mentions the stone from Bükk in his story "The White Angel". The white angel was originally a pagan girl whose people still sacrificed a white horse on the Pagan Altar. She followed her betrayed fiancé and turned into a white mist.
