The Saint-Étienne Cathedral (German: St. Stephen's Cathedral) in Metz in Lorraine was built between 1220 and 1520 and is considered one of the most beautiful and largest Gothic church buildings in France. With a vault height of more than 41 meters, it has the third highest interior after the cathedrals of Amiens and Beauvais; the area of its stained glass is around 6500 m², the largest in a French cathedral, hence the name La lanterne du Bon Dieu - English: "The Lantern of the Good Lord". It is therefore also one of the masterpieces of the Gothique Rayonnant. It is the episcopal church of the diocese of Metz. Since 1930, the cathedral has been classified as a monument historique (cultural monument) and protected (Wikipedia).

A breathtaking Gothic cathedral. Built from the ochre-colored Jaumont stone of the Metz region, it boasts an incredible height in the nave and enormous windows with stained-glass windows on three levels, including some by Chagall. This makes the interior exceptionally light-filled. A must-see.
