The pond here is considered the entrance to the underground realm of Mother Holle. Great starting point for many well-marked hiking trails and circular routes.

Very beautiful swamp pond with a lot of life in it: fish, frogs, newts, water striders and much more. Particularly recommended when the day-trippers make their way back ... then it gets quiet (only the frogs cannot be overheard), the sun is above the pond ... sit on one of the benches and pause.

Legend of the Frau Holle pond:

The lake forms the entrance to Frau Holle's subterranean realm. At the bottom lies her castle of pure silver, surrounded by lush gardens full of flowers, fruit and vegetables.

Every noon the beautiful young woman appears at her lake to take her bath in the middle of the pond. That's why this place is also called 'Bathroom of Frau Holle'.

As the light earth mother and goddess of fertility, Mother Holle gave people rich harvests. She brought the rain that brought growth to the fields, and when she shook out their beds, the snow that covered everything. If they were angered, they brought misfortune and misery to the land.

I recommend visiting the Frau Holle pond during the week, preferably in the morning. Then you have it almost to yourself and can get very close to the mystique of this place.

The Frau-Holle-Teich is a small, natural and legendary body of water on the Hoher Meißner in the Werra-Meißner district in North Hesse. Within a radius of about 50 km, it is the highest standing body of water.

The water of Frau Holle's Pond fills a depression at the edge of the Hoher Meißner. Where Frau Holle's Pond is located today, fine particles (clay) have sealed the subsoil. The water accumulates on the clay layer.

Numerous legends surround this pond, one of which was published by the Brothers Grimm in "German Legends."

Since 2004, the large wooden figure by artist Viktor Donhauser has stood by the pond, marking the lesser-known legendary figure of Frau Holle.
