Jizo: According to Buddhist teachings, Jizo is a bodhisattva, ie an "enlightened one" (roughly comparable to the Christian helpers). He is considered the companion of the dead in the underworld, but also has the function of judge of the deceased. Jizo is portrayed as a monk with a shaved head, often wearing a red cap and red bib. As a companion of the dead, Jizo, which is particularly popular in Japan, is also responsible for children who have died prematurely, are killed or aborted (the so-called "water children"). The figure has then - as can be seen in the long rows of the Tokyo Tower - a childlike expression and the size of a child. Very often Jizo is set up (mostly by the parents) together with small windmills, food, drinks or toys; sometimes he even wears children's clothes. That may sometimes seem strange to us. From a purely aesthetic point of view such figures are certainly of no great value; nevertheless, they often have a very touching effect - especially when time has left their deep mark on them.

Tokyo Tower: The Tokyo Tower, built in 1958, is very clearly oriented towards the Paris Eiffel Tower; At 332 meters, however, he is about 8 meters taller than his role model. From the second platform at 250 meters, you have a great view of the city and far beyond. Striking are the relatively many (Buddhist) temples and (Shinto) shrines that are still found nearby. Illuminated at night, the tower transforms into a huge red-flaming structure.

Please note: The (public!) Routes used here can often not be displayed with "komoot"; the marking is therefore only an approximation to the actually chosen way! However, you can definitely find the three important places: Zojoji Temple with entrance gate and the numerous Jizo figures on the right side / the wooded section of the Shiba Park between Temple and Tokyo Tower with three further Jizo representations / the viewing platform the Tokyo Tower with a fantastic panoramic view.
Of course, the mentioned deficiency does not allow an exact positioning of the pictures.
