The old pumping station in Pannerden has not been in operation since 1970. Nevertheless, the Water Board Rijn en IJssel and the municipality of Rijnwaarden wanted to honor the cultural-historical monument from 1884. The drainage sluice, also known as the 'bach pumping station' after the family that has managed it for generations, is an idyllic part of the Liemers. After a thorough restoration with the help of the province of Gelderland, the Water Board and the municipality of Rijnwaarden, the pumping station opened its doors again in May 2016.
Start the day with a delicious breakfast at Gemaal Oude Rijn. Or enjoy a nice cup of coffee with apple strudel during the break of a cycling or walking tour and lunch if you have really worked up an appetite.
Settle down on the terrace under the walnut tree or find a nice spot inside when it is still a bit chilly outside.
