The Polish Radio National Symphony Orchestra derives its traditions from the Polish Radio Symphony Orchestra founded in 1935 in Warsaw.
From the 1980s to 2014, the seat of the symphony orchestra was located in the Katowice Culture Center. Krystyna Bochenek, at the Plac Sejmu Śląskiego 2.
From October 1, 2014, the NOSPR operates in a new building at 1 Wojciech Kilara Square. The new seat houses two concert halls: a large one for 1.8 thousand. places and a small one for 300 people. In 2014, 152 thousand people heard concerts here. 219 people.
The building was erected on post-industrial areas that used to belong to the Katowice Coal Mine. The author of the project is Tomasz Konior with his team, the acoustics of the Great Concert Hall were designed by Yasuhisa Toyota from Nagata Acoustics. Construction began in 2012 and ended in 2014
