His name is given in a single documented note: the travel bills of Passau Bishop Wolfger von Ellenbrechtskirchen. They record that Walthero cantori de Vogelweide too Zeiselmauer on the Danube in Lower Austria was given by the bishop five solidi for a fur coat.It was, as closer investigation has established, on November 12th, 1203. The poets Gottfried von Strasbourg, Wolfram von Eschenbach, Thomasin von Zirclaria and Walther mention attest to the prestige of his poetry for the first and second decades of the 13th century. Younger art enthusiasts praise him as their master. His own poetry alone teaches about his life and person. It reveals an eventful existence, a rich, passionate, singular individuality, the originality and greatness of genius. ... ... "
