If you are out and about in the hiking area near Bad Tabarz, you have to go to the Lauchagrund. On the one hand because of the beauty of the rocky valley itself, on the other hand as a worth seeing starting route for tours to the Inselsberg, Aschenbergstein or Hirschstein. The two rock formations lure with magnificent views of the mountains on the northern edge of the Thuringian Forest and the striking Inselsberg, which can be seen very closely from up there. The ascent to the viewing rocks is challenging and has to be tackled on paths of different lengths. If you don't want that, stay down in the valley and still have enough to marvel at. In the bottom, the bare rock comes to light on the left and right and with a bit of luck climbers can be observed on the rocks. At the "Backofenloch" you will find the spot where the exterior shots of the film classic "The Cold Heart" were filmed. Paul Verhoeven filmed the fairy tale by Wilhelm Hauff for DEFA in 1950.
Conclusion: Lauchagrund - a great must!
