Wandering dunes are known from the North Sea coast but there are also shifting dunes inland, which were created after the ice ages along the Urstromtäler.

The highlights described at Komoot "Vossberge" and "Everinghauser Wanderdünen" are identical. It is the Vossberge, Ice Age quartz sand elevations (vulgo: E. Hauser Wanderdünen), which no longer hike because they are overgrown today and which extend to the ferry station. In between there is something missing in the dune because sand was removed there in the past and the dune was transformed into forest and fields. But the landscape is impressive, as it borders on the Wümme lowlands at Hellwege to the south.

The Vossberge are a nature reserve in the Lower Saxony municipality of Sottrum. It is a former shifting dune area, the very fine sands of which are only slightly in motion. To reduce the movement of the sands, pines and beach grass were previously planted in some areas. After the traditional sheep grazing was abandoned after the Second World War, the dune area was populated by trees, so that today there are only a few open dune areas.

We started at the ferry station and followed the path along the Wümmwiesen at the edge of the forest. Sea of Gagelstrauch lay to our right in the bog and from the NSG ferry station we finally came to the NSG Vossberge. Wonderful solitude and pure nature!

The second part of the former shifting dune (komoot.de/highlight/235960) in the NSG Vossberge. Here you can find shade in summer or enjoy the setting sun on one of the elevations. A huge sandpit to dig for the little ones.
