The beautiful ceramic fountain in the village of Walda is a joint work of the Bauda ceramicist Gert Mehnert and the late Walda artist Gunter Augsten. The work of art was inaugurated in 1995 for the 775th anniversary. It shows all three churches of the then Walda-Wildenhain community as well as other striking buildings and natural beauties of the region such as the Große Röder. A commemorative plaque by stonemason André Österreicher has been commemorating the idea behind Gunter Augsten since 2010. He was murdered in a spectacular way in his Waldaer house in February 2009.
On the night of February 19, 2009, a bang startled the Waldaer. After an explosion, the communal house in which artist Gunter Augsten lived on Baudaer Strasse burned down. The 49-year-old was in the middle of the fire, but he must have been killed beforehand. The indictment is: by David K. (then 26), a former home child. The flames of the house had struck yards high. Five days later, sniffer dogs found the charred corpse of the painter and musician in the rubble. His killer is in psychiatry; the proceedings at the Dresden Regional Court were only recently opened.
