This route follows the old Roman highway.
At least we enjoyed these landscapes, balancing on the national borders.

Our written walking experience:

GAUME Florenville - Roman ruins Chameleux / morning walk
The Roman sun god 'Sol Invictus' is in our favor today. We raise a glass to Violette, in the shadow of the Church of the Assumption of Florenville, on a good and hopefully dry day.

We leave the city center along the cuesta through worn country roads and look for traces and remnants of the Roman highway Reims – Trier.

In the brook valley of Williers near Chameleux we walk on the historically 'asphalted' heirbaan.

With some imagination, you'll be right back in the Roman Empire. A 'true service station' for Roman soldiers and travelers is visible on the archaeological site.

For four centuries this location was a 'relay', a stopping place for soldiers, travelers and a place where horses were changed. We cannot dwell forever in time and must return to our time.

In order to remain in the atmosphere of a Roman legionary, we walk at a marching pace over Historical Trial back to Florenville where 'Tendre Violette' is waiting for us.
We thank Sol Invictus for a dry sunny morning.

On to Azy… in search of Dolmen, beautiful views and adventure along the meandering Semois.
