The bizarre figure goes back to the novel The Last Reckenburger by the writer Louise von Francois.
She spent her childhood in what was then the Saxon Court with their grandparents. Imaginatively, she compares the house to a pug with a pointed cap.

The industrialists Ottler and Nolle (brewery and chain factory owners) are said to have taken up the comparison in a happy group and the sculpture in 1905
Commissioned by Prof. Erich Haase.
The pug originally stood on the corner of the facade of the former Sächsischer Hof, Markt 6, but after its renovation in 2007 it could not be re-attached for structural reasons.
Today the pug looks a little hidden directly at his former domicile.

Professor Haase's popular sculpture is currently not on view in the cityscape, but is stored in the municipal depot. In 1905, the industrial friends Oettler and Nolle, owners of the local brewery and the chain and nail works, commissioned a sculpture of a pug with a pointed cap, which was installed at the "Sächsischer Hof" soon after completion.

The four gentlemen (the two senior and junior bosses of the companies) had talked over a glass of wine about a story that was difficult for them to understand. The writer Louise von Francois spent her youth in this same house, the Saxon Court, and in her "Childhood Notes" she describes the house as very magical, comparing it to a pug with a pointed hat. This comparison stuck in the minds of the men and the decision to make the sculpture was quickly made. The local artist Haase had already made a name for himself through various projects in the city and in the surrounding area, so that the order was quickly awarded and completed.

During the renovation of the "Sächsischer Hof" house in 2007, the sculpture was removed from the rear building and has not yet been put back in place, but permanent storage is not planned, the figure is to be returned to its original place, but various architects have not yet suggested an alternative version presented, which allows for an incorporation into the current concept.
