This pinetum - also known as a conifer garden - was planted during WWII. The garden consists mainly of conifers and is laid out on the IJsselvliedt estate.

A Pinetum is a specialized arboretum in which a collection of gymnosperms (conifers) has been planted. One pronounces "pinetum" as: pieneetum. The plural of pinetum is: pineta. First of all: the term "pinetum" itself is a neologism of Pinus or Pinaceae (or perhaps the English "pine" or "pine-tree") and arboretum. In Dutch, instead of talking about a "conifer garden" on scientific grounds, one would actually better to speak of a "conifer garden".

A striking tree in the pinetum is the giant sequoia
(Sequoiadendron Gigateum). This one is from California. The species is the largest tree in the world by volume and can reach an age of up to 3500 years. A giant sequoia can grow up to a hundred meters high.
