The St. Trinitatiskirche was built from 1567 to 1575 as a hospital church for the adjacent infirmary.
At that time, a dedicated plague preacher worked there, comparable to our current hospital pastoral care. The church was almost completely destroyed in the great city fire of 1719 and was rebuilt in the Baroque style by 1739. It was not until 1846 that the merchant Carl Hänel donated the west front with the two towers.

After the destruction of St. Wolfgang in 1945, the Schneeberger Hospitalkirche housed the church community for their services for many years. The Cranach paintings were also taken there until 1969.
Between 1977 and 1980, the interior of the church was remodeled to its present appearance.
In 1997/98 it was determined that the roof of the church needed a general overhaul. That led to today's appearance.

The hospital church of St. Trinitatis is still the "winter church" of the community.
From mid-October to mid-May our services (unless otherwise stated) take place in the Hospital Church.
