"This closed state forest complex of about 200 square kilometers in size, characterized by connoisseurs as the "treasure house of European forests", embodies the high performance potential that the forest can fulfill today for numerous social requirements.

It accompanies the Lower Fulda from Wilhelmshausen and the Upper Weser from Hann. Münden to Bad KarIshafen over a distance of around 40 km. Numerous witnesses from the settlement history of this area - Wölbäcker, charcoal burners, glassworks, deserted areas, border ramparts, ramparts, acorn gardens, burial mounds - provide an insight into the past centuries. Extensive oak hut forests and kilometers of oak avenues are reminiscent of the times of forest pasture. The southern part of the Reinhardswald has been fenced off to about 100 square kilometers since 1867, serves as a wildlife sanctuary, among other things, as a state hunting ground and is reminiscent of the great hunting tradition of this low mountain range.

The almost endless beech forests on the Weser characterize the landscape, but at the same time provide the valuable raw material wood under exemplary ecological conditions, the better qualities of which are now marketed as far away as East Asia.

Several natural streams, some nature and landscape protection areas and extensive cultivation on the plateau offer the best conditions for biotope and species protection. So the common raven occurs on the whole area. The black stork has been documented as a breeding bird since 1996. One is particularly proud of the wild cat, which, with a stable population, can be regarded as an indicator of the quality of the natural area.

An extensive network of hiking trails, some forest car parks and public transport open up the area for hikers, who will find a "paradise" for quiet relaxation here."
