Here in the Krummauel there are still remains of an old arm of the Sieg. Fish, frogs cavort in the water, it croaks, crickets chirp, in short a small piece of intact nature.

"The castle ruins, which are over 800 years old, are the landmark of Windeck in the Sieg Valley. They are located about 210 m above sea level and offer a wonderful view when the weather is clear.
The formerly imposing castle complex was first mentioned in documents in 1174 as "Castrum novum in windeke" and served as a border fortress for the Counts of Berg against the Counts of Sayn. A copy of this imperial document and finds from Windeck Castle can be viewed in the Altwindeck Museum Village.
