The current church, built in 1778, is the third, the two previous ones having been buried by sand. The first church would have been built around 1190, at a place called "the colonies" north of the old house "Jasper". The low cottages of the village
surrounded him. The port was frequented by a fishing fleet which sheltered at the "Grand Gouffre" (name of the port which was still in operation in 1698).
Following the gradual invasion of the hamlet by the sands and several devastating storms, the village was forced to move further inland, far from this often raging sea, but above all to escape the effects of the sand.
