    The origins of the Palatinate and the beginning of the construction of the monastery go back to the 10th century. In 1551 the monastery was closed and the Saxon elector donated it to the Pforta state school. In 1722 lightning destroyed the roof of the monastery church so badly that the church began to be demolished years later. Today it is a museum with a monastery church ruin, monastery garden and crypt, as well as some outbuildings. Really worth seeing.

        One of the most interesting imperial palaces... was an important imperial palace of the East Franconian kings Heinrich I and his son Otto I in the 10th century... In recent years a lot of money has been spent on the renovation and modernization of the museum. Definitely worth a visit.

              In the museum in the former Benedictine monastery of Memleben, which was founded around the 10th century, you can get a small impression of the life of the Benedictine monks. The monastery was dissolved as early as the 16th century and was repeatedly used, mostly for agricultural purposes.

              Large parts of the monumental church from the 10th century and above all the late Romanesque crypt from the 13th century, the only room in the monastery that has been preserved in its original state, have been preserved. Since 2011, monks have been living in the Memleben monastery again for a time as part of the "Lively Monastery" program.

              For hikers - and other visitors - there is the opportunity to stop for small meals and drinks, an audio guide is included in the entrance fee (approx. 7 EUR for adults, as of 2019).

                      For the current price of €9.90 including permission to take photos, you can visit this wonderfully restored monastery, which has been wheelchair accessible for a few weeks now. Very informative for visitors interested in history.
                      The small café serves delicious cakes and, if the weather is sunny, you can end your visit under the large chestnut tree.
