3,543 victims of the two world wars are buried in the war cemetery at Waldfriedhof, one of the largest military cemeteries in Germany, most of them soldiers, but also Wehrmacht helpers, civilians and prisoners of war. Not all victims who were buried in other cemeteries in Munich and the wider area before the construction of the facility could be identified, so that on some grave slabs there is an “unknown soldier” instead of a name. Between the German victims of the war, more than 300 foreign victims, mostly Russian ones, are also resting.
