    Ryvoan is a classic Scottish bothy, a haven on the open ground beyond the Ryvoan Pass. It's a popular shelter too, being relatively easy to access from Glen More.

    There's a beautiful poem on the door by AM Lawrence, a poet from Burgh by Sands in Cumbria. The piece is called 'I Leave Tonight from Euston' and encapsulates the thrill of leaving civilisation to seek out wild places, such as those we find in the Cairngorms.

      Bothies, in case you haven't come across these lovely things, are little mountain huts dotted around Britain's wildest places, mainly in Scotland. Used as warm shelters by weary hikers (including overnight stays), they can vary greatly in comfort levels.

          Really cool bothy that you can stay in overnight for free. It's great to read the book from guests that have visited. Please leave it as you found it...             One of my favourite bothies for a quick night in the wild as it's so easily accessible - the ideal bothy for first timers.

              This cottage is located on Thieves' Road, which runs south from Nethy Bridge towards Glenmore. It was formerly a working farm that was abandoned in 1877. Over time, the attached stable building was lost, leaving only a single room.

                The recently refurbished Ryvoan Bothy is a welcomed refuge for weary hikers crossing the Cairngorms. The perfect place for a cup of tea when a storm rages outside ☕️

                  I'm now very curious about them, especially about "bothy etiquette." I can't imagine it not being vandalized and "tagged" if it was in Michigan, USA. Is the word "reserve" written on the door? Do strangers share space (especially when caught in bad weather?) Very intriguing!
