Sturdy footwear, at least a very (!) Strong lamp and a reserve lamp. The halls are sometimes very large and can only be enjoyed with plenty of light. Please also remember to inform somebody about the planned cave tour in case something happens!

This cave can only be safely entered with sturdy shoes and a strong main lamp and a reserve lamp. A cell phone lamp or even candles are definitely not enough: the halls are simply too big and the way back cannot be made out without clever lighting! This is the serious tip! (I'm a member of the cave rescue and I really know what I'm talking about). In addition, the cave experience is simply better with the right light!

The Cova Tancada is today the best known of the unknown caves. The somewhat adventurous way here prevents it from being overcrowded, it is no longer really lonely today. If we didn't meet a single one 13 years ago, we met 4 (smaller) groups in October 2021.

Because you are not pressed through here with 200 other people like in the big show caves, you can let the cave work on you in peace. It offers everything from narrow passages to large halls. However, one should not be fooled by the stairs built by the smugglers: the cave is not foolproof. The ground is slippery and in some places you have to be careful not to slip into deeper shafts.

Proper shoes are highly recommended for the walk there and for the cave itself. A household flashlight is not enough, it should have 1000 lumens.

Particularly spectacular is the via ferrata down to the smuggler's cave. This should NEVER be entered alone and without expert guidance. A friend almost did not find out!

A Majorcan family recommended this cave to us. After some deliberation, we dared to go down and in with our children (6 & 9). On a Spanish holiday. The most dangerous thing was the number of people of all ages and the lack of alternatives. All in all quite challenging. Children should be fit and experienced in climbing. Good flashlights and walking shoes, as the previous speakers have pointed out. Definitely doable with children.

Cannot be described in pictures, especially since pictures of the "via ferrata" can often be seen here.
The stalactite cave inside is huge and impressive. Here you can easily stay 15-30 minutes to explore. Most fun with a big lamp

Something has to be climbed to reach the cave. Not entirely safe, but it's worth it. An abandoned stalactite cave awaits you. Take flashlights or tea lights with you. Important to mark the way in the cave.

Demanding descent, danger of falling over several hundred meters. Doable for families with a head for heights, fit and cautious primary school children and parents with strong nerves.
Important light: Headlamps for €4 are available at Hiper Alcudia, Carrer de Polentia 47, we have also laid out bendable light sticks (fishing supplies) as markers for the way back out of the cave.

Bring your swimsuit. Below the cave, there's now a rope attached to a cliff above the water's surface, providing access to the sea.

My daughter carried her 12kg toddler on her back and safely brought her to the cave. Halfway there, we got caught in a heavy downpour on the cliffs, soaking the rocks.
