"The mill rattles by the rushing brook..." says a well-known folk song. In Boitzenburg, the stream is called "Stream" and flows past the mill and monastery ruins through the Tiergarten in the direction of Prenzlau and on to the Baltic Sea. For centuries he has driven the mill.

It was first mentioned in 1271, when the Margraves Johann II, Otto IV and Conrad provided the monastery with their foundation. When the monastery was dissolved during the Reformation, its property and with it the Boitzenburg water mill soon became the property of the von Arnim family. The mill was not spared from destruction during the ongoing turmoil of the Middle Ages, but the mill building has existed in its present form since around 1752. Of course, there were numerous changes inside in the years that followed, after all the millers had to move to the height of the stay time. At the beginning of the 20th century, it was already possible for the mill turbine to provide electric light throughout Boitzenburg. After 1945 the mill was expropriated and became public property. Until 1959, flour was still being ground and LPG animal production continued to produce compound feed in it until 1978. The preservation of this testament to mill technology, which is unique in its completeness, is ultimately due to the passion for collecting and far-sightedness of the last miller at the time, Willi Witte.
