A whole series of old streets and alleys lead here and connect with the adjoining squares and the nearby main street. The place used to be on the edge of the monastery district.

The pulsating center of the old town is the old town center of the old imperial and trading city on Lake Constance. The square is designed as a largely closed square, in the middle of which is the famous Neptune fountain.
