    The view from up here is truly regal. When looking down from the crater rim, about 300 m, the northern lake (Lagoa Azul) appears blue due to the reflection of the sky and the southern lake (Lagoa Verde) appears green due to the vegetation.

    By the way, the origin of the name Vista do Rei is linked to the visit of King Carlos I and Queen Amélia on July 6, 1901.

                                      A beautiful route, and if done in good weather, you can admire beautiful views of the lakes and the ocean. Be careful, there's no shade when it's sunny.
                                      Another warning: section 5, which goes from the Lago Verde to the Vista do Rei car park, is closed to traffic, complete with a barrier and a no-entry sign, as it's dangerous. To avoid having to retrace your steps, you'll need to find an alternative route.
