Forte do Guincho, also known as Forte das Velas, is located on Praia do Abano. It was built in the 17th century and was part of a defensive system along the coast of Cascais. It was a strategic point to monitor ships and protect against landings on Guincho beach. Although it was classified as a Property of Public Interest in 1977, it is currently in ruins. It has undergone several renovations over time.

A stronghold! You can find the ruins at the northern end of Praia do Guincho. Be sure to walk a few hundred meters further north and look at the great bays

Forte do Guincho, also known as Forte das Velas, is a historic coastal fortification located on Praia do Abano, within the parish of Alcabideche, in the municipality of Cascais.
It was built around 1640, during the Portuguese Restoration period, as part of a coastal defensive line to protect the entrance to the Tagus estuary.
